The Universe is Expanding and I am Gaining Weight
One Frogman’s struggle with obesity under extreme conditions.
Dear Mom,
This place really sucks. It tries to kill me every chance it gets. I have been with the frogman brigade for nearly seven years now and this place is the worst. I know the necessity of rotating posts, but I wish the Imperium would scratch this place off the list.
We can only inhabit certain “safe” zones; otherwise we lose too many units to the indigenous fauna. As an example while we work mainly in the marine environments, we have to stay near the shore, since the enemy has unnumbered types of leviathans beneath the waves that would be all too happy to come up and kill a careless frogman. I have lost six members of my unit over the last month to them. The hardest part to get used to is that the enemy doesn’t just kill us, they actually eat us!
And don’t think the dangers of the deep are the most deadly. There are land fighters as well that have taken many of my comrades. We seem to lose someone to them most every night while we are on patrol. There are large predators out every night searching for us. I don’t think command has even determined if it is a coordinated effort against us, or if we are just that far down the food chain of this god-forsaken place.
